An Introduction to Medicine

Medicine is an art, science, and discipline of treating a patient with the intention of helping them recover from their ailment or injury and also dealing with the management of the entire diagnosis, prognosis, treatment or rehabilitation of the injury or illness. Medicine covers a wide variety of medical practices developed to keep and restore physical health by the proper treatment and prevention of disease. There are basically two major branches of medicine namely internal medicine and external medicine. Internal medicine deals with the treatment of the body within the constraints of the patient’s home environment.

On the other hand, external medicine takes one of a number of approaches to treating the disease. These include surgery, pharmacology, radiation therapy, cryotherapy, chemotherapy, hemodialysis, and other treatments that are used to cure, treat, or prevent the development of disease. All these techniques have been developed over the course of history to ensure effective treatment of a disease through the reduction of its symptoms. As modern medicine has developed more sophisticated methods of treating various diseases, it has also developed an understanding of human behavior and the role that emotions play in disease pathogenesis. In medicine, people are categorized into three basic groups according to their mentality: sensitizers, infectors, and compleaturs.

A medicine that falls under the first category, sensitizers, is focused on prevention through education, and most of these schools of thought have their origins in the fields of psychology, anthropology, neurology, and sociology. The other category, infectors, is focused on the treatment of bodily fluids and organisms with a primary focus on the eradication of a disease organism, as opposed to preventing the recurrence of the same. This type of medicine tends to employ strong chemicals and strong machinery in the treatment process. The third category of medicine, compleaturs, tends to specialize in the study of the relationship between the human body and specific diseases and uses deductive reasoning in its treatment process. Many times this type of medicine uses highly complex medical equipment and highly refined diagnostic tools to arrive at its diagnosis. This last category of medicine, the one we will be discussing today, tends to utilize a unique combination of all three of the basic categories of science in medicine.

According to this broad classification system of science, there are three different areas of science that deal specifically with the study of the different ways that the body can react to diseases and the treatment of those diseases. These three branches of science are known as neurophysiology, pharmacology, and biophysical Pharmacology. Neurophysiology deals with the connection of brain activity to behavior; it focuses on the physiological basis of the nervous system, including its functions, structure, organization, and maintenance. Pharmacology deals with the relationship between the actions of drugs and the concentrations of those drugs in various tissues throughout the body; it studies the effect of drug action on the cellular level.

The final branch of science that is dealt with in this article is biophysical Pharmacology, which basically deals with the study of drug action on the cellular level. This is an extremely important area of medicine as it deals directly with how a drug will interact with cells, how it will affect them in a detergent manner, how the drug will release its action, what the concentration and quality of the drug are, and how the drug will affect the cell in such a way that it will be able to repair the damage that the drug has caused. This line of science also includes an application known as virology, which examines the effects of chemical substances on living organisms in a scientific manner.

As you can see, although this general description of Medicine may seem rudimentary, the methods involved in medicine are incredibly complicated and intricate. Because of this, it is vitally important that people who suffer from serious illnesses, or who are simply interested in learning more about the field of medicine itself, do a great deal of research into the various areas of science that are involved in medicine. This will allow people to have a deeper understanding of exactly how the treatment of disease works, and how different types of medicine can help those who need it most. Without this level of education, people could very well go about their lives ignorant of the knowledge that surrounds them. Research into the world of medicine is a necessity, especially in today’s climate of increasing knowledge about environmental science and the impact that global warming is having on human health.
